Doreen Alice Pinto
(July 21, 1959 – September 24, 2026)

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our beloved Doreen Pinto, who passed away peacefully on September 24th, at the age of 67.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Santan and Maria Adeline Pinto, and her brothers Rudy (Vicky), Tony, Ronnie (Yvette) and her sister, Loretta (Trevor). She is survived by her brother Leslie (Rhona). She will be sadly missed by her many nephews and nieces, Bevan, Janice (Steven), Brian (Leena), Steven (Natalie), Ryan (Cora), Kevin, Justin and Ian; and her beloved grandnephews, Savio & Remy, and grandnieces, Tara & Maya.

Family relationships were extremely important to Doreen. Making memories were at the top of her list and she cherished every opportunity to do so. She loved spending quality time with her siblings, nieces & nephews, as well as friends that she called her “chosen family”. Doreen loved to be surrounded by people and enjoyed social activities such as going out for dinner at new restaurants, watching movies, enjoying a night out at the theatre, concerts and so much more. Doreen was a world traveler and she visited places such as India, Alaska, Spain, Hawaii and Cuba to name a few.

She worked at the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto for close to 30 years as a front-line worker and then as a supervisor. She positively impacted the lives of many children and their families. She devoted much of her career to supporting children and teenagers who were in her care, helping them navigate the transition to independence and adulthood. Doreen was known to be a fierce advocate for children, youth and families that she worked with ensuring the most vulnerable people in society were safe, happy and successful. She created close relationships and deep friendships with her colleagues at the Children’s Aid Society.

She will be remembered as a woman of deep faith – grounded in her beliefs, morals and values. She was kind, generous, honest, well-respected and was a mentor to many in her life. She loved being part of her community and wellness groups. Doreen was a cancer survivor and a warrior and she volunteered at Wellspring Cancer Support, where she was loved and inspired by many.

She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, songs, poems, laughter and love. Her strength, wisdom, generosity and zest for life will continue to inspire those who knew her. We will be forever grateful for the time that we were given with her, and she will remain deeply loved and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

“I don’t take anything for granted anymore. I wake up every morning and say to myself, ‘Thank you God for another day and allow me to use this day as best as I can.’ I believe in counting my blessings and having the cancer experience magnified this for me. It allowed me to see all in my life that is good. That’s my attitude of gratitude!” – Doreen Pinto
